Where is the Pain and How Can I Help?
I was speaking with a couple the other day that I have known for many years. They were telling me about how the husband had lost his 3rd job in almost as many years. They told me about how his unemployment was only about half of what they needed to get by. They were able to get food stamps and Medicaid for their daughter and granddaughter. The story went on for over an hour.
I felt bad for them, but how can I help? I willingly loan them money every time they call. I have offered to help them start their own business with very little capital outlay. Yet, they cannot see that as an option to their financial crisis. What more can I do? As I continued to consider the possibilities, I remembered receiving the following Daily Motivation message:
You Always Have Choices
You don’t have to buy from anyone.
You don’t have to work at any particular job.
You don’t have to participate in any relationship.
You can choose.
You steer the course you chose in the direction
of where you want to be today, tomorrow,
or in any distant time to come.
You hold the tiller.
You can decide to alter the course of your life at any time.
No one can ever take that away from you.
You can decide what you want and go after it.
It’s always your next move.

There you have it! It’s a matter of choice. No matter how badly we want something for someone else. No matter how badly we want to take away the pain, in then end it is their choice.
